You Never Know

January 9, 2011

The strangest thing happened yesterday at work. I work at a veterinary clinic, and one of the veterinarians who knows that I have an ostomy came up to me and asked if I had any extra supplies. Apparently, one of her clients had an ostomy and sprung a leak. When I took my supplies in the room in my little Coloplast bag he looked so shocked. I am sure he was surprised to find out that someone working there had an ostomy; he was probably even more surprised to see how young I was. I mean, I was shocked to even be asked that question! Turns out, he taped his up and fixed the problem so didn’t need to use any of my supplies, but still. It goes to show that you really never know when you’re talking to an ostomate.

    Hi Piper,

I’ve been following your wonderful story since the beginning and thoroughly enjoy reading about your progress. You are so articulate! Are you still posting on Meet-an-Ostomate? You should because you would be very inspirational to others going through the same thing.

I sounds like your life is totally on track again. A new boyfriend, enjoying food again, back at work, S-E-X (LOL). Good for you. That’s a funny story about meeting an ostomate at your job. I had a similar experience at a party. I asked a cousin about the scar on his stomach when he got out of the pool and it turned out that he had an internal pouch as a result of colitis. I pulled up my shirt and showed him my bag and he couldn’t believe it. He told everyone at the party, totally letting the cat out of the bag (no pun intended).

I hope that now that your life is so back to normal you won’t stop your blog. Even an occasional update one in a while would be nice.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your great stories and have a happy and HEALTHY New Year.
